About the event

Josh Hilberman takes the stage for a captivating 75-minute performance that celebrates the rich legacy of tap dance; its history, evolution of styles, and the mentors who shaped his own artistry with humor, technical expertise, and pathos. Josh honors his teachers, men and women, Black and white, whose influence spans nearly 150 years of tap dance tradition. Championing a wide range of styles, from vaudeville and soft shoe to buck and wing, ballet-infused tap, musical theatre, and the avant-garde, he brings each form to life with authenticity and flair. Rhythmic, musical, and delightfully funny, this show celebrates the humanity, complexity, and beauty of tap dance.

Support for this engagement is provided in part by the Wyndham Robertson Artist Residency fund at Carolina Performing Arts. Michelle Dorrance serves as the inaugural resident of the program.
